But there really were! I was told that during the Famines, lots of Irish men went to Wales and found work in the mines. Which may be why one of the great Welsh tenors has an Irish name: Dennis O'Neil. scotgirl

They're also refered to as Ulster-Scots after the area of Ireland they settled in.

scotch is a drink. the term for the people is scots-irish. They came from sotland, and lived in ireland before coming too america,mostly in the south.

I have heard of Welsh coal miners and English coal miners, but never Irish coal miners.
